Nature's Calling

A Mindful Outdoor Experience for Men

Welcome to a retreat where we aren't retreating from anything. Instead, we are providing a safe and open space to come as you are; to be you. We facilitate opportunities for self discovery, personal growth, and interpersonal connection - all within the awe and wonder of nature, our natural and original habitat. Some nature based programs focus on what nature can do for us. We emphasize the symbiotic relationship humans hold with Mother Nature and the more than human world.

PAUSE...    BREATHE...    EXPLORE...

The Nature Effect:

What if the benefits of nature go far beyond getting outside or conquering terrains? Most of us have heard that spending time in nature is good for our health. Many have felt calmer, clearer, or more grounded after a walk, sitting outside for a meal, or spending time among trees and water. But, why does being in nature have such a powerful effect on us? Are you ready...? We're a part of nature. Perhaps, you've noticed a sense of "coming home" or "feeling like a child again" while immersed in a forest, floating on water, or gazing at a crackling fire - that is, if home is a safe, welcoming, and nurturing place. Our child parts are ready to release from constrictions, and run freely.

Personal Growth & the Male Self:

We are not teaching anyone how to be men. Instead, we’re offering each person the skills,

space, and opportunity to connect with or discover who you really are. This is the path

toward connecting with self and others through personal truths - welcoming curiosity

rather than defensive judgments.

Here, we get to the roots of what is truly most important to you, and learn how to

practice prioritizing in real life. How much energy are you putting into attempting                                                                                            to control how others see you, define you, or interact with you? Imagine shifting that                                                                                          energy from the need to control to showing up authentically in your relationships, in any                                                                                    environment, and with the mirror. Identity has become misrepresented, such that we are                                                                                    defined by what and how much we do. Two things are true in our philosophy: 1) our value                                                                                  is  inherent, and 2) we can reach contentment without feeling stuck by complacency.

The Experience:

Invitations during this retreat include: mindfully hiking with curiosity and gratitude - connecting with nature  through meditation, movement, and interactive practices - time and space for introspection - intentional and meaningful conversation, discovery,

and community.

Expert guidance in areas of physical, mental/emotional, relational, and spiritual (not religious)

well-being is woven into our daily practices.

Discovering and experimenting with stories of limitations: A portion of this retreat is inspired

by the Shinto Japanese tradition of misogi, inviting participants to challenge deeply engrained

stories that limit our experiences, turning dated expectations and rules in our rulebooks that are

limiting and burdening into healthy boundaries and agency to get our needs met.

Nourishing and healthy meals are included with your investment.

By the time you leave these forested mountains, you'll notice a sense of calm, contentment, and connection, which is all yours to take with you. Everything you learn and experience, here, is designed to be approachable and sustainable in your own life outside of this retreat. Though this experience is cathartic and deeply enriching, it is neither therapy, nor a religious/faith-based retreat. We welcome any adult identifying as male interested in self-discovery, wanting positive male community, and able to navigate forested mountain terrain.

More about your your Men's Retreat

"Nature permits us the opportunity, free of distractions of the city, to ask the fundamental question, 'Who am I; what is my purpose here?'"         -  Ken Burns

Some guys join us simply to experience a slower, more intentional pace - away from demands, screens, and notifications - to participate in their lives with more meaning and purpose. Some guys are feeling isolated and lonely, and want meaningful connection beyond work or family. Many guys join us feeling disconnected,  stressed, overwhelmed, or generally discontent. These feelings are understandable with confusion about how to be male and where we fit in times of evolution. All come to experience the inherent benefits of returning to our natural habitat - nature. At the root of our work is more clearly knowing oneself and learning how to effectively prioritize what's personally important for self and within our relationships.

Even if you've been camping and hiking before, even if you already have a mindfulness or meditation practice, even if you already have friends, you may be amazed by the new depths you'll be able to reach when you have an uninterrupted safe space to press pause on the speed and chatter of your busy life, and immerse yourself in nature's restorative properties in this way. No judgment, obligations, notifications, screens, or distractions.

* A portion of this retreat will involve a hike that some may find difficult. Misogi is a personal challenge, therefore, no one is obligated to hike the full distance - listen to your body, be curious about perceived limitations, and practice acceptance of what you discover to be real. This is more about discovering and negotiating your limits - not ignoring or blowing through them. This hike will be at a mindful pace and includes many stops along the way for guided practices and lunch. We value and endorse self-determination. If your body says stop, one of us will stop with you.

** Due to the terrain, elements, and physical requirements to traverse the land, this retreat is suitable for able-bodied individuals, only. Please be mindful of your physical limitations. We will be hiking and sleeping outdoors.

*** A list of items you'll need to bring with you can be found HERE.

"The general flexibility/“invitation” to participate attitude felt very freeing, unlike most religious retreats where forced participation forces most to be uncomfortable and not open up."
