**Now welcoming new clients
I prefer to think of my clients and myself as fellow travelers. We are all in this together. There is no therapist and no person immune to the inherent challenges of existence. I approach each new fellow traveler with a clean slate as your experiences are unique to you. I focus on your strengths and look for strategies to promote growth and success. My pledge is to meet you where you are and through connection and collaboration, work together to chart a new path forward. I have a special passion in working with teens, adolescents and young adult males in times of transition and change.
Growing up in the Metro Atlanta area I always found people and their stories deeply intriguing. Connecting with people on an emotional level and entering their world has always been something I have embraced and enjoyed. While backpacking throughout Asia and South America after graduating college I met a variety of incredible people, coming from different backgrounds, with various values, experiences, characters and interests, of different colors, voices and ages. Fellow travelers shared and inspired me with their stories. Traveling is a never ending journey involving critical reflection, learning to understand how people perceive the world and participate in different systems of shared knowledge. Nothing would inspire me more than being able to travel with you along your journey through forming a connection that is both meaningful and trusting while we draw from the deep wells of your knowledge that each unique place has to offer.
An interesting note about me is that I am a third generation MSW. My papa, Leonard Cohen, received his MSW from the University of Pittsburgh and went on to become the Executive Director of Jewish Family and Career Services in Atlanta for many years. My amazing mother, Deborah Cohen LCSW, currently has her own private practice in the Lawrenceville, GA area. One would not be incorrect in saying the work I do is truly in my blood!
