MINDFULNESS  l  BALANCE  l  CONNECTION

The Peaceful Place is a client-focused, mindfulness-based psychotherapy practice where our clinicians take the time and energy to understand and respect where our clients are in their lives. We join you on your journey of growth and development toward the person you know yourself to be, beyond current obstacles and challenges. Whether you no longer recognize who you've become, are struggling with a relationship, experience depression, anxiety, or overwhelming stress, or you want guidance and support in self-exploration, we recognize our clients, as, first and foremost, people with real lives, real jobs, real relationships, and real personal truths. Our work is based in three primary principles: mindfulness, balance, and connection. Each are a part of the other, and directly influence each other.

Simply put, mindfulness is paying attention to the here-and-now, where we listen to, and respect what is happening within ourselves and our surroundings in the present moment. With mindfulness, comes recognition and appreciation for what we DO have in our lives; noticing what is within our control, and letting go of the rest. We shift our interpretation of experiences from judgment to curiosity.

Focusing on what you're missing, what you don't want, or that ideal perfection in the distant future, only brings you down and holds you back, causing you to feel uncomfortable and stuck. Practicing mindfulness and self-acceptance allows you to sit with the discomfort, and learn about it, rather than run away from it, only to have it show up again later.

Balance is in reference to finding equilibrium in our lives, accepting the good AND the bad, so that we have the strength for both, without getting overwhelmed. Without darkness, our appreciation for light lessens, and vice versa.

Balance has a direct relationship with mindfulness, in that we tend to allow space for things we cannot control when we accept that there is room for both comfortable and uncomfortable experiences. Our first instinct when presented with discomfort, is to get away, or make the source of discomfort go away. Oftentimes, this leads to conflict and digging deeper holes than we started with.

When we feel balanced, we have strength and skills to get through the tough times, while having energy for the pleasant.

At the root of all human experience is connection. As humans, we thrive on connection, and seek it through conscious and unconscious processes. Many of us feel our best when we have the confidence and security of healthy, unconditional connection with others. Whether with a partner, family member, friend, or pet, those who have felt truly connected tend to feel more grounded and purposeful.

Some people have never felt this connection, while others are trying to mend it. Others still, may be living in such fear of losing it that they may sabotage it, often not understanding why they can't seem to find someone who cares.

Within connection is a balance between validation and healthy boundaries.
